05, 2007 Bosaso, Puntland special militias created to fight against terrorism attacked Umal Qura school early Monday morning in Bosaso, Puntland. The principal of the school was taken at gunpoint and is not known his whereabouts. One of the local residents, who refused his name for security reasons, told Jubbaland.com that Umal Qura School is no different from the other Puntland schools and has nothing to do with terrorism. The resident further said, "Islamic religion can't be taught in Puntland Schools even as a subject...teaching religion is a crime and whoever teaches a verse to students will be treated as a terrorist" Mass demonstrations followed the arrest of the principal. Several hundred angry protesters came out on the streets demanding the release of the principal and denouncing the act of the regional government headed by the General Adde Musse Boqor. Among the protesters were elders, intellectuals, youth and the parents of the Umal Qura School students. The Federal Transitional Government is not represented in Puntland and Islamic laws are not tolerated according to the protesters. Some of the verses of the Koran can't be read or taught in public places like schools, mosques etc. It became normal to victimize people in the name of the terror by the authorities in Somalia including the Federal Transitional Government headed by Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf whom Puntland is his property as he said.
