06, 2007 Baidoa, Somalia's TNG president, Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, has given an interview to Yemen press (SABA) and made clear that his government will not reconcile and negotiate the members of the defeated Islamic Courts including those who consider themselves moderates like Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. The president continues in his interview and said, "My government believes that the members of the defeated clan based United Islamic Courts are criminals and they must be brought before a court of law...these members are responsible for the war that killed many Somalis and my government will not offer a pardon to them..." When asked if he will meet Sheikh Sharif who is moderate in the eyes of the international community, the answer was "NO" This interview came days after the president announced reconciliation meeting for all Somalis while he was in Addis Ababa. There was a political and financial pressure from European Union, US, and other international communities that can't be ignored by Abdullahi's government. Reliable sources say there's disagreement between Ali Mohamed Gheddi, prime minister, and the president on the reconciliation meeting.
